The death of "wit"
Lexica
by Lexica  Today 4:56 PM    1
I have been finding that the more attention I put towards my Zen practice, and the more I focus on compassion for all, the less funny I find a lot of the "wit" that's out there. I think that's why this piece spoke to me.

Why Climategate Does Matter
merrie
by merrie  Yesterday 7:41 PM    1
 3. According to one estimate " by the International Energy Agency " the global cost of dealing with AGW will be $45 trillion (that’s 2/3 of the world’s current entire economic). This will mean our energy bills will rise by perhaps a factor of ten; that we will be subject to more and more pettifogging rules on what kind of lightbulbs we use and how we dispose of our trash " perhaps even how often we’re allowed to fly; it will mean governance by unelected “experts” and technocrats from the UN; it will cripple industry; it will mean higher taxes; it will take money from the middle classes in the Western world and hand them over in the form of “compensation” to kleptocrat dictators in the Third World; it will almost certainly send the global economy diving into a double dip depression. We are, in other words, about to be presented with the biggest bill in the history of mankind.

All Great Statists Target the Elderly

What's the first thing Mao Tse-tung did? He took out the educated people. He took out people who had a cultural, historical memory of China's past. He killed them, and Stalin did the same. He took out the people who remembered how things work. The left has been busy rewriting, revising the history of Reaganism and the eighties and tax cuts ever since it happened. They have been hell-bent on our population not knowing the truth, particularly the young population that was born during that period of time or ten years prior to it. They want them thinking the exact opposite of the truth, and they have to eliminate the people who know the truth to cement their power. Mao Tse-tung did it, Stalin did it. "Are you comparing Obama to those people?" No. Not in terms of genocide. But they're not invited to the summit. The people that know what to do to fix this are not invited to the summit, folks.

The Afghan Quagmire
papananook
by papananook  Today 2:53 AM
So what would a rigorous public and internal administration debate have highlighted? First, the more occupation forces there are, the more they fuel the insurgency against the occupation, especially since so many more civilians than fighters lose their lives. Witness the wedding parties, villagers, and innocent bystanders blown up by the U.S. military’s superior weaponry. Second, there was a remarkable absence in Obama’s speech about the tribal conflicts and the diversity of motivations of those he lumped under the name of “Taliban.” Some are protecting their valleys, others are in the drug trade, others want to drive out the occupiers, others are struggling for supremacy between the Pashtuns on one side and the Tajiks and Uzbeks on the other (roughly the south against the north). The latter has been the substance of a continuing civil war for many years. Third, how can Obama’s plan begin to work, requiring a stable, functioning Afghan government—which now is largely a collection

64% of Americans are … un-American?

Two-thirds of Americans disagree with Lord Obama - and that makes us un-American? By believing terrorists should be tried in military courts we are given yet another label, along with racists and radicals we are now un-American as well. One more disagreement and we may make it to traitor!

Whole Grains Vs. Refined Grains
kkcapricorn
by kkcapricorn  Today 11:35 AM
pastas can be made successfully with whole grain flours; one is not limited to chewy, dense whole wheat spaghetti if one wants to provide a while grain pasta dish. Brown rice noodles are light-flavored and slightly nutty tasting, for example; they are fine textured and look virtually identical to “normal” spaghetti.

The Scandal That Never Happened
dl211
by dl211  Today 12:51 PM    1
The importance of the truth can't be overstated, especially in the world of science and particularly with the climate summit at Copenhagen set for next week. To wit, the IPCC study blaming humans for global warming will be the basis for discussions among world leaders on how best to handicap developed industrial economies. The scientists involved in writing that report are the same ones implicated by the scandalous e-mails, leading us to conclude that much of the report -- and therefore the efforts of the world's political leaders -- is based upon lies.

The Experience of Anger
Kelika
by Kelika  Today 10:27 AM
More: "The sociological analysis of anger can shed light on the ways that the conditions of society influence emotional inequality," says Schieman. "Why do some people seem to experience more anger than others? And what does this say about social inequality and its impact in our everyday lives?"
